People who are frequent to Agumbe always stay in the Doaddamane where Shankarnag’s classic serial from R K Narayan’s novel adaptation ” Malgudi days” has been shot. And if they stay there they will never forget the amazing host Kasturi Akka. Some of my trekking friends are even emotionally attached with this wonderful woman.
You can stay in this 150 years old huge house , enjoy the pure vegetarian malnaad food given by Kasturakka , sleep , trek but she never asks for any money. You are free to give whatever the amount your want.
This year when I visited I got a chance to have some nice conversations with her and spend some time.
