with the emergence of the second post-independence generation (+/- 30 age group today) of musicians  — particularly vocalists — younger audiences are returning to the concert halls. Recording companies confirm that there is now a booming demand of fresh young talent, and a shrinking demand for recordings of the pre-independence masters. It appears that an entirely new audience has emerged for Hindustani vocalism, and the corresponding generation of vocalists is able to relate meaningfully to it. The reasons for this are many and complex. But, in strictly musical terms, one can hypothesize what might be happening.
– Deepak Raja, Musicologist ( link to full article here )
A  big applause came  from the audience when renowned musicologist and author of the popular book ” Hindustani Music Today”  Deepak Raja uttered these words in Audio CD release function last weekend in Bengaluru . It was a pleasant surprise for me as well and being one of that young audience I felt  his words are very much true. The  proud moment of that event was the two Audio CD recordings were sung my good friends Omkarnath Havaldar and Meghana Kulkarni ! Then followed was a musical feast, the Jugalabandi by Omkarnath Havaldar  and Kaushik Aithal with the accompaniment from Kedarnath Havaldar on Tabla and Sameer Havaldar on Harmonium. I have been watching , listening them from past three years believe me the whole team have a great chemistry between them . They sung Raag  Puriya Kalyan, Raag Durga and a Kannada Bhajan in Bhairavi  which were filled with terrific elaborations , smooth renderings with a perfect timing .They gave everything a music lover would dream of .  Really feel lucky to be friends with them. And I am enjoying those music serious music  conversations, casual talk and the greenroom fun with each of them!
Here are the few glimpses of the concert . On a side note  the team came in  whites so I decided to go with a black and white photos !!
