Everyone might have seen big new temple inauguration but in small villages like this one Chittenalli , Coorg district goes little different. The temple is built and the idol is founded in the main center hall ( garbha gudi ) of temple. A good time ( mahoortha) is decided from the suggestion of village purohitha ( priest) or achaararu to start the regular poojas. On that day holy water is carried on head by few people , boys and virgins of the village on the streets where people offer worshiping at every house. The procession is accompanied by big folk percussion with the participation from all village heads , elders , youths and kids. They reach the temple and the main guy climbs the steps and gives a holy bath before the main priest finishes all other worship formalities. A big feast awaits for all after the worship is finished
It is interesting not to see one common procedure everywhere though the gods and religion are same. Every village has practiced its own procedure and they keep changing through out the generations due to various reasons.

ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುವ ಲೇಖನಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಛಾಯಾಚಿತ್ರಗಳು ನನ್ನ ” ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಜನಪದ ಆಚರಣೆಗಳು” ಎಂಬ ಪ್ರಾಜೆಕ್ಟ್ ನ ಭಾಗಗಳಾಗಿವೆ. ಶತಮಾನಗಳಿಂದ ಆಚರಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಈ ನಶಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಚಿತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿಡಿದಿಡುವ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನವನ್ನು ಕಳೆದ ಎರಡು ವರುಶಗಳಿಂದ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇನೆ . ಈ ಆಚರಣೆಗಳು ಸರಿಯೋ ತಪ್ಪೋ ಎನ್ನುವುದನ್ನು ಸಾರುವ ಉದ್ದೇಶ ನನ್ನದಲ್ಲ. ಅಲ್ಲದೇ ಅದು ನನ್ನ ಸದ್ಯದ ತಿಳುವಳಿಕೆಗೆ ಎಟುಕದ ವಿಷಯ. ಓದುಗರು ದಯವಿಟ್ಟು ಈ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನವನ್ನು ಆಚರಣೆಗಳ ಪರ ಹಾಗು ವಿರೋಧದ ಚರ್ಚೆಯಾಗಿ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳದೆ ಇವುಗಳ ದೃಶ್ಯದಾಖಲೆಯಾಗಿ ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಬೇಕು ಎಂಬುದು ನನ್ನ ವಿನಂತಿ.
